      Avoid these traps

      Unrecognised federations

For Olympic boxing, the Ministry recognises only the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). Certificates from other “boxing federations” do not count for SAI, Khelo India, cash awards or sports-quota jobs. Check before paying any entry fee.

      Paid “agents”

No government scheme needs an agent or a fee to apply. Apply only on .gov.in portals or through your District Sports Office, school or BFI-affiliated club.

      Missed deadlines

The Ministry cash award must be claimed within six months of the event. Railway and central sports-quota windows are short. Set reminders.

      Supplements and medicines

Many cough syrups and supplements contain banned substances. Check with the NADA website or a sports doctor before taking anything, and complete the ADEL course.

      Keep these documents ready

Almost every scheme asks for the same papers. Keep scanned copies in one folder.

      Common questions

School Games or BFI, which one should my child enter?

Both. SGFI (through the school) and BFI (through a club and the state unit) are separate routes, and a boxer can do both in the same year. School results help with state schemes and sports-quota jobs; BFI results decide national camps and international selection.

Where do I register for KIRTI (Khelo India Rising Talent Identification)?

KIRTI registration is done on the MY Bharat portal (mybharat.gov.in) with Aadhaar login, for children aged 9–18. Assessments are held in rounds at Talent Assessment Centres, and registration opens only when a round is announced for an area, which is why news reports often appear without a link. As of 5 October 2026 we could not find an open window on the official sites. Keep checking MY Bharat and Khelo India, or ask the Khelo India helpline (kheloindia@gov.in, 011 2338 3336) or your District Sports Officer.

Is there a form for the Khelo India scholarship?

No. Khelo India Athletes are identified from Khelo India Games and national results. The way in is to win medals at KIYG and the Nationals.

Who decides Gujarat's KIYG and state teams?

State selection is done through SAG and the BFI-affiliated state unit, using state and national results. Ask your District Sports Officer and coach when trials will be held.

Do National School Games medals count for jobs?

Yes. Under the DoPT order of 4 March 2024, National School Games medals are in the preference list for central government sports-quota jobs, after international, National Championship, university and Khelo India Games medals. Check each advertisement for the sports it includes.

My child got a certificate from a private championship. Does it count?

Only if it was organised by BFI or its affiliated state unit, SGFI, SAI, Khelo India or the state government. Ask the organiser for their BFI affiliation before entering.
